Waterfallcity II by Kamikaye Waterfallcity II by Kamikaye
Who .. this took a lot of time. about 6-7 hours of painting. I used a grid for two-point perspective again. Very useful for making buildings.

Edit: Wow a DD , that was kinda unexpected ! :D Thank you so much :iconlachbee: and :iconvoyager212: :floating:

Daily Deviation

Waterfallcity II by *Kamikaye Suggester says: "This deviant is one amazing, unknown artist with plenty of other mind-blowing pieces, and he completely deserves a lot more attention. Waterfallcity II by *Kamikaye is a very interesting piece with a futuristic perspective. It really does deserve to be recognized." ( Suggested by Lachbee and Featured by MacRebisz )

None of us can truly know what the distant future will hold for us. Some believe that the human race will descend into its own madness and eventually cause its own destruction out of fear of its own kind. Others believe that there will be a massive flourishing of highly advanced technology that will allow us to break through the various problems that we have caused and reconstruct the planet into a futuristic utopia where all can easily thrive alongside one another. The more logical thought is that human culture will be the same, just with a few upgrades to the mainframe. Waterfallcity II, created by *Kamikaye, gives us a glimpse into the perhaps no so distant future and what a possible city could look like.

Starting from what I first noticed, the entire city really appears to be a truly living city. Lights are highlighting every single structure and building, various vehicles are soaring through the high altitude city, even some of the inhabitants can be seen on some parts of the area. All of the elements work together perfectly in order to make the civilization function and work It really gives the feeling of a Blade Runner-esque civilization in a semi-dystopian future, which is something I cannot help but love.

On a detail standpoint, the city thrives with this element as well. Various running lights, engine emissions from a landing sky cruiser, the aforementioned civilians around the area waving the cruiser to land, it all looks great with an excellent sense of scale. You can almost imagine the distance of how far down the fall of the top of one of the buildings could be. Or even how far away each city in the distance is from the one before you.

The slight Gaussian blur glow effect added onto the city greatly increases the atmosphere of the whole scene. It gives off the impression that the city is floating through a large cloud and much of the cloudy mist flows through the buildings partially shrouding it. Normally the execution of an effect like this is not implemented as well as it should, but in this case I could not think of a better way to have it implemented into this piece.

Throughout the whole design, I can say that the whole piece is a genuine piece of modern sci-fi artwork that no one should miss out on. An excellent and well rounded piece shrouded in mystery and modern beauty more than deserving of a Daily Deviation. Good work, *Kamikaye.

First of all, I have to say, I love those colors! :D The darker "space like" background with the bight almost neon subject colors really gives a lot more impact than your ordinary picture.

Flying cars, hovering platforms, it really does look like you hopped in a time machine and went there and back! It's very original, I've never really seen anything like it before.

The lines are a bit loose. What I mean by that is; a bit wobbly, if you will. So it gives it a bit more of a "sketchy" look.

All around, I really do love this picture. The small flaws just gives it more of a believable "a real person made this" feel if you catch my drift. :3

This is my first critique ever so I'm sorry if it's not very good. ^^;

SHiiiiinnnnnnyyyyy :icondroolplz:

yu got here ...
A wholle better and colest entire gallery ... of better deviations to chose for one more DD ....

but this !?

Ok .. seriously then i have to say what i think ...

Well i think is just one more P.O.Sh for Daily deviation ...
This should be better rendered / and perspective is dam off / this isnt curvilinear or even linear ... its just messy ....

Cool speed concept nice deepness / nice background and foreground contrasts out of the atmosferic volume blue ...

yeah it got the feelings ...
But thats it ...

Tecnicaly has nothing ...
Its just one dam concept all shaken fast drinked and bad drawn ...

Seriously PLEASE SPEND some more 100 hours in that S. doing what yu CANOT that is tecnical artwork rendition / Anyhow / And get it at the size of 6000px ...

And please get some serious learning dvds / of Dylan Cole and KID ...

And start to learn to put things like this on yo scraps not on yo main gallery lol ...

Hargh SERIOUSLY sometimes i just kwit trying to teach people what is real art ...
WHAT Is not this ...

Its just a dam sketch bad drawn ...
.. so this for daily deviation / And knowing already how many deviation yu have is like a NONO ...

There are even better in this gallery and even better from this artist ... so W.T.H

I'm here at this site at 8 years already and never earned 1 dayly deviation ...
( ok i'm not that popular / and i dont give a shit about daily deviations ... / in reality i would be very ashamed if i get one / cause i dont have more time in my live to get better things at "my real level" that i personaly try is trying to reach thing like "Dylan cole" )

i reaaly think that whatever :iconarcipello: and :iconkerembeyit: and :iconomen2501: do ... Sure reaaly deserve Daily deviations are are REAL ART / very out of this world rendered with such maestry and dedications that meets the eye and we see it ...

But not S. of 10 minuts like this above ...

Hell even this day other deviations :
Sure deserve it - Amazing cool perspective perfect

Even this one

Alot messy concept but VERY WELL RENDERED ...

But seeing S.s like this BLUE in blue SKETCH above earning daily deviations is like / ho my god ...

Were the real defenition of "art" anyway this days ? - Art that takes artists 300 or more hours in at least 2 or 3 or 6 weeks of work just for one image rendering goes ...

Is just for the recognition as the sugester says ?
I think not ...

I would personaly be very ungry if i earned any DD with this low S. quality Noticing that the overall this user Gallery is DEEP FAR Above ...

Is like / if this was made with a MOUSE / i would give the "some" promps ...

But its not ...
COmparing to the real work of art of 300 hours / this is just the dam 30 minuts speed concept ... that expecialy if yu have a cintiq is kinda like 15 minuts for this s ...
W.T.F ...

If i was the ARTWORKER / i would get this to 8000px size at least and spend like more 300 / DOing 6 hours everyday in the next 50 days to mend and better it and get this pieše to a finished pieše on a REAL ARTWORK level That reaaly could deserves a DD ...

Nothing against the artist / but against the LACK OF EFFORTS IN ART ...
Not putting the artist skills in Cause / Caus eit just one to want and get efforts enouph

but Thats my sincere advice / and chalenge most of all ...

BETTER IT IN THE NXT 300 HOURS TO A FULL 6000px Size Full Rendered Cinematic artwork ... DUDE.

Ruben Ismael

PS: congratulations for the one more daily deviation KID ...
Guess that if someone remenbered yu - and someother aproved / yu somehow there very deep are very special MAIBE who knows deserve it ...

Serioulsy i just had to say all that ... cause is just ultrageous for real artists see this kind of things reach front page ... And not to put yu down yu got a full of wounder and stylish and dreams and feeling full filled gallery ...
But there is a big step for your evolution on the tecnical side kid ...

.. were i hope yu get some evolution and productive learning ...

Bunch of people that kiss yo A. and say how good yu are by earning a DD just cause yo lil popular / will not do that good to yo as artist at all ... is alot better to be unpopular and get REAL WORLD LEVEL GOOD / On the background / then release reaaly great things that reaaly dignify one as areal biguest artists ... than do this kind of things and get stuck to please FANS that dont know nothing about art ... and get dazled at every lack of worked efforted hours S they see ...

Cause those hundreds hours will not just get yu quality / or feelings in your art / but also will reflect yourself as WHOLE that yu put and will get stuck there as a proof of all yu are inside / And all yu dream is there reflected / Deeply Rendered at the best of yu ...

Sometimes only when yu PAIN for art yu can get the deep achieve of how meanfull it can be in your live / and were it reaaly will reach yu ...

Popularity and pleasing fans and get pleased with S:s like this ...
Sure will not make yu a better artist ...
And in the end will just give yu Fake hopes.

So hope yu get my comment on a curve constructive learning.

Plz Hide the coment / or flag it as spam / be at yo will ...
Thats more than what i fell its my own experience and all i lived and all i know .
Everyone is unique but everyone learns withe achothers so ...

I just hope yu open yourself to more effort and therefore more evolution and more learning .

I'm out and gone ...

I read the first few sentences and could tell you were an illiterate dumb ass with a spelling deficiency. You should probably go pick up a dictionary...its free on the web.

As someone who does not spend the time or effort to use proper spelling/grammar or even spell "you" correctly, I think you are the last person to complain about this person "not putting enough time" into their artwork. :/

Chill out. This artist has earned the daily deviation. Art is about improving, not perfection. It doesn't matter that you do not approve, to be honest no one cares, it is just rude to an artist who has great talent. If you want someone else to win a DD then suggest that person, don't just bitch about the ones that do get chosen.

was this inspired by Waterfall City in the Dinotopia series perchance, like a futuristic model of it?
Kamikaye Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2010
Thx :) Its just a waterfall, loosely inspired from a building in "Use of weapons" by Iain Banks. Never saw Dinotopia or is it that movie with energy crystals and taling dinosaurs etc. ?
MECa3 Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2010  Student Photographer
I dont actually know if they ever turned it into a movie, but its a BRILLIANT series of kids books that are worth looking up for the drawings alone, though as kids books the writing and plot is well done too. its not your kind of drawing- digital art and such, just "normal" drawing, but extremely well detailed and proportioned, not to mention COOL. its about this lost island where humans and dinosaurs live together, very classy. :)
